Welcome to BrianMargell.com
My name is Brian Margell, and I am a classically trained guitar teacher and performer. I teach a variety of styles/skills, including classical guitar, acoustic guitar, ukulele, song leading, conducting, music theory, etc.
Who Am I?
When I first heard classical guitar music, I immediately formed a connection with it and have pursued it ever since. I also enjoy cooking, singing, and gaming. I happily take on the roles of classical guitar performer, teacher, song leader, and video blogger and I train every chance I get. In my spare time, I enjoy analyzing Bach’s chorales and learning about music history. Since I started playing at the age of 21, I have easily put in 10,000+ hours of study to hone my guitar skills; but, I continue to seek professional training and growth as I learn to better teach and perform.
How Did I Learn?
My first several years were self taught. I then spent some time learning from the composer/guitarist Kevin Callahan. Subsequently I received classical training at the University of Washington School of Music, where I enjoyed the good fortune to attended various masterclasses from some of the world’s foremost classical guitar perspectives, including Jorge Caballero, Marcin Dylla, Fabio Zanon, and Xuefei Yang. I currently take lessons with master guitarist Jorge Caballero as I continue to train on the guitar.
Do you teach?
Yes I do! Thanks for asking. I began teaching private lessons in 2017. Because of my classical training, I have useful input for musicians pursuing a variety of aspects of music, including classical guitar, singing, musical analysis, composition, theory, acoustic guitar, etc..
I’ve enjoyed teaching students ages 4-84 and can make guitar learning fun, encouraging, and empowering. In recent years my teaching has been heavily influenced by my own teacher, Jorge Caballero, who is both a masterful performer and teacher.
