Original Compositions
The following three songs are part of a project I undertook with the aim of creating music resources that are useful for all types of church music ministry formats. Specifically, all of the songs have an arrangement for a band, piano and voice, or SATB choir.
The Blood of the Martyrs begins with a tense mood while reflecting on Biblical martyrs, but ultimately celebrates the knowledge that they have entered their rest.
Christ is Risen joyfully emphasizes Jesus’ resurrection, forgiveness, sovereignty, and anticipates our coming resurrection and the ensuing reunion as well.
Worry Not embeds scripture into memory as Jesus’ words convey his timeless message about the fruitlessness of worry from his Sermon on the Mount.
The Blood of the Martyrs
Beginning in C# minor, the outset is tense, further emphasized by frequent use of minor 2nds. Additionally, there is also an antiphonal relationship between the voices in the verses, which begin to overlap during the chorus. As the song moves into the concluding chorus the key brightens dramatically as it shifts into the parallel major, and for the closing phrase the voices finally move in unity.
